Meeting with veterans of the Afghan War

On February 18, 2025 “Fiery flame of Afghanistanmeeting with veterans of the Afghan war was held in our College. 

Purpose: to reveal historical facts and feats of internationalist soldiers of the Afghan War (1979-1989); to foster patriotism, a sense of duty and responsibility in the younger generation.

The guests of the meeting:

  • M. Abdushkurov Chairman of Afghanistan Veterans Union (Almaty);
  • S. Efimenko Chairman of Afghanistan Veterans and Disabled persons Union (Medeu district of Almaty).

The meeting was held in the form of a dialogue. This year we celebrate the 36th anniversary of the Withdrawal of Soviet solders from Afghanistan. The invited veterans told about main stages and role of the Soviet solders in resolving the military conflict, the casualties suffered among the soldiers of the USSR. Kazakhstanis participated in the Afghan military conflict as part of the Soviet military contingent. The number of warioirs from the Kazakh SSR sent to Afghanistan to fulfill their international duty in the period from 1979 to 1989 amounted to 21,239 people, 947 of them were killed and 1,770 injured.

At the end of the meeting, in honor of this year‘s celebration of the 80th anniversary of Victory in the Great Patriotic War, the invited veterans gifted to College library three-volume bookFlame of Victory”, which tells about the exploits of Kazakhstanis who participated in the Great Patriotic War.

The memory of the Afghan War is not only numbers and dates, it‘s fate of people who will forever remain in our hearts.
